If senior superlatives were given out to human organs the heart would probably win hardest working the lungs  would garner most and brain would end up with most intelligent no surprise there, but what would the  skin be noted for our guess in most underappreciated not to mention best dressed.

For an Underappreciated Organ Skin takes up a lot of space. it’s the body’s largest organ and if you were to stretch out the skin of the average and if you were to stretch out the skin of the average adult it would cover 22 square feet or a little bigger than a twin bed and weight pounds and can you imagine what we’d look like without square feet of skin to hold in our insides your muscles bones and organs would all be exposed.

How does skin do?

Skin has a lot of different functions. It is a stable but flexible outer covering that acts as barrier protecting the body from harmful things in the outside world such as moisture, the cold and sun rays as well as germs and toxic substances.

Just looking at someone skin can already tell you a lot for instance about their age and health. Changes in skin color or structure can be a sign of a medical condition for example people with too few red blood cells in their blood may look pale and people who have hepatitis have yellowish skin. The skin is the largest organ of your body but perhaps because it is also the most visible its complex underlying function is often overlooked.

Although you only physically see one layer of your skin, its actually comprised of three different including the:

Epidermis.  The epidermis is the outermost layer of skin which is made up primarily of dead skin cells and serves as a protective barrier to keep harmful pollutants out and to also lock moisture and nutrients inside.

Dermis. Next is the dermis or the middle layer of skin. This is where most of your skin’s primary functions take place as your nerves proteins glands enzymes and blood vessels are located here. The points at which the dermis and the epidermis meet is called dermal epidermal junction where a network of network of blood vessels supplies nutrients and oxygen to the epidermis from the dermis.

About your skin’s essential proteins

There are two primary proteins that are utilized in the dermis to give your skin its structure and support. These are:

Collagen.  Collagen is the most abundant protein your body and serves the main building blocks for your skin. This protein is responsible for your skin’s firmness and structure so lines wrinkles and sagging skin may result when it breaks down due to the aging process and UV exposure.
